Application Development Projects

This is a selection of bespoke applications that Elmstone has taken through from the requirements gathering stage to implementation. All are still being actively run and supported today.

Safety Incident reporting and progression.

We designed developed and implemented a safety incident reporting application to assist compliance with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations. This workflow based application needed a user friendly front-end suitable for use by people who wouldn’t normally use a PC. It uses an email interface to alert the appropriate personnel of any incidents that require their attention. The incident is followed through the stages of assessment, investigation, action assignment and completion. It has comprehensive searching and charting facilities.

Interactive Whiteboard Application.

Having maintained and enhanced our clients interactive whiteboard application, we progressed to totally rewriting the application in a suitable language so that it runs on the three major operating systems. We chose the development language 'QT', which is also used by other companies in the development of many major applications such as Google Earth, Skype and Adobe products. This redevelopment also added new features to the application and significantly reduced ongoing enhancement costs.

Waste Disposal

We designed developed and implemented a system to handle the disposal of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste, complying with UK regulations, and providing full audit tracking. The system is configurable, enabling the same version to be installed overseas, but configured to meet the different country regulations.

Risk Assessment

We were commissioned to design, build and implement a Risk Assessment recording system. This flexible system allows the company to centrally record all their Risk Assessments, (for example 'Manual Handling' 'Task based' 'Confined Spaces' and 'COSHH') so that all users have access to the most up to date assessment. The system includes version control, automatic review periods and the ability to easily created entirely new types of Risk Assessment. The system is also 21cfr11 compliant. Like all our systems, it includes comprehensive searching and charting facilities for rapid production of management metrics.

Audit Reporting

We were commissioned to design, build and implement an Audit Reporting system. Our customer had a need to carry out many types of disparate audits, including security reviews, health & safety walk-throughs, office policy compliance and more. This system allows them to configure their audit reports, including controlling the 'tick box' questions that must be answered when the audit is carried out. It also controls the progress of any actions that arise from the audit, ensuring that they are tracked and escalated where appropriate. The system is 21cfr11 compliant and, like all our systems, it includes comprehensive searching and charting facilities for rapid production of management metrics.

Change Control

A large multinational company commissioned us to design, build and implement a system to record and progress changes occurring on their sites. These changes, such as adding or modifying equipment, required assessment by many specialists; a situation that was nearly impossible to manage on a large scale using their existing paper based methods. Our system built in an electronic workflow for these reviews and provided 21CFR11 compliant electronic signature capture for progressing the workflow of the change. It includes comprehensive searching and charting facilities for rapid production of management metrics.

Holiday recording and management

This system allows the recording of individuals' personal details, holidays, sickness, time off in lieu etc. Personnel can be grouped by departments and areas and holiday conflicts can be viewed. An email interface allows confirmation to be sent back to the person requesting the time off.
A web based interface also allows managers to view their department's holiday commitments.

Technical/Business Consultancy and Project Management

Software Migration

We assisted a large company to migrate their Access database applications to the latest version, as part of an overall desktop upgrade. This project included complex multi-user databases and required careful planning and pre-testing prior to the rollout, which took place over the course of several weeks.

Data Migration

We assisted a large company to migrate data from several disparate systems to one 'off the shelf' application. This project involved producing data extraction program code and reports verifying the transfer of data.

Intranet implementation

Our business consultant assisted in the Vendor Selection process to choose the most suitable supplier of a third party intranet Content Management System. Following this she acted as Project Manager, laised between the customer and Third Party supplier to get the intranet built and launched.

Feasibility Study

Our business consultant carried out an investigation to determine the best way forward for a procurement department which needed to upgrade its purchasing systems. She had to understand the many external system interfaces to the then current system so that she could identify the potential knock-on effect upon these systems.
